Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about the project, the waitlist, and the realities of a hosted service.
Notice: Planned Product Information
This documentation describes functionality and policies planned for the hosted Kookey social platform, targeting release in Q1 2027. The current public website is a static presentation and waitlist.
1.Is the hosted app available now?
No. This website is a static project presentation and does not provide account registration, room uploads, a social feed, messaging, or paid features. The hosted social service is in development with a target release in Q1 2027. This is a target, not a guaranteed date. We’ll share an update when the service status changes.
2.Is kookey open-source?
kookey has not published a software license or a canonical repository for a reusable release. Until a license is available, no particular reuse rights are confirmed. Any third-party component has its own license, which does not grant reuse rights to kookey’s original code, writing, or brand artwork. Read the Open-source License page for the current status.
3.Can I host my own instance?
Self-hosting is part of the project direction, but there is no supported release or deployment guide for the future social app. The available operator guide describes only this static website; it is not an installation manual for a social service. A supported release will need verified prerequisites, persistent storage, update and backup steps, security responsibilities, and operator policies before anyone can rely on it.
4.Does kookey own my rooms?
The proposed model is that hosts keep rights they hold and grant an instance only the permissions needed for the features they choose. The actual license must be stated in the Terms for the released service; no upload service is available on this website today. An upload permission would not give the service ownership of a room, but it may need to authorize storage, conversion, and display to the audience a host selects. The exact scope, duration, service-provider access, and deletion effect have not been confirmed yet. We’ll share them before uploads open.
5.Which devices and platforms are supported?
No supported app, browser, or playback matrix has been published because the hosted service is not available. Supported operating systems, browsers, screen sizes, and minimum requirements have not been confirmed yet. We’ll share the tested list before launch. Do not assume that every device or media service can connect directly to kookey.
6.Can I capture, upload, export, or delete a room?
Those actions are not available on this website. The capture flow, upload limits, export format, deletion steps, and backup behavior are not available yet. We’ll share the confirmed details before users can use these features. There is no room archive or account data to export from this static site. When guides are available, they will explain each task separately, including what happens if an upload fails or a person can no longer sign in.
7.Who can see a room or message?
This website has no user posts or messages. Audience settings and message behavior have not been confirmed yet; we’ll share details before posting or messaging becomes available. Before posting is enabled, kookey will explain whether content is public, restricted to selected people, discoverable, or retained after deletion. Recipients may still copy or record content they can view. A message intended for one person is not a guarantee that the recipient cannot share it onward.
8.Is kookey free? Does it use ads or analytics?
The current public website has no checkout or subscription flow. Pricing for the hosted service has not been announced. “No ads” and “no tracking” are product goals, not confirmed details about a future service or independently run instance. We have not confirmed the production website host or server-side logs. We’ll share the hosting and logging details when they’re known.
9.How can I report abuse, copyright, or a security issue?
There are no user posts or in-app reporting tools on this website. Service-specific reporting, appeal, copyright-notice, and security procedures are not available yet. We’ll publish them before accounts open. The site lists contact@kookey.me for project inquiries, but monitoring and response times have not been verified, so it is not a confirmed reporting or emergency route. Do not send passwords, exploit details, suspected illegal material, or unnecessary personal information. The Community Guidelines, Copyright & Content Policy, Security page, and Legal Contact page identify what each future process still needs.
10.How can I contribute or contact the project?
A contributor guide explains how to set up and work on this website. A public issue tracker or contribution channel has not been confirmed yet. We’ll share a link when one is available. The legal contact page lists contact@kookey.me, but mailbox monitoring is not confirmed. Do not send credentials or confidential user information to the general project email.
11.What can I do on the site today?
You can read about the project, its planned features, and the current service status. You can also join the waitlist with an email address. The current website has no account sign-up, room upload, private account, or purchase flow, and the waitlist does not reserve a username or guarantee early access. The form collects an email address so Resend can store it and send a welcome note; the Privacy Notice explains the rest.
12.How will I know when the hosted service opens?
The current target is Q1 2027, which means January through March 2027; it is not a promised launch day. The waitlist is the release list: join it and we’ll send a launch note when the opening date is set. We’ll also share a launch update on this site. The current target is Q1 2027, but it is not a guaranteed date.
13.What should I know before sharing third-party media?
A future room may include licensed music, video, voice chat, usernames, and other people’s voices or images. Permission to access media on one service does not automatically authorize every other use. Review the rights holder’s terms and consider privacy and consent for other people in the room. kookey has not confirmed any music, video, or catalog agreements.
