Community guidelines

Proposed rules for the shared rooms, comments, profiles, and messages planned for kookey.

1.Status and scope

These are proposed rules for a hosted service that is still in development. The current website has no accounts, uploads, messages, in-app reporting, or moderation workflow. We’ll share the service rules, reporting route, appeals process, and effective date before accounts open. The Terms cover the agreement; these guidelines give examples of expected conduct.

2.Keep shared experiences social and respectful

Treat participants, hosts, moderators, and people appearing in rooms as people. The proposed rules prohibit threats, targeted harassment, hate based on protected characteristics, stalking, doxxing, repeated unwanted contact, impersonation, and coordinated abuse. Strong disagreement about a film, album, or opinion is different from repeatedly targeting a participant. “That choice did not work for me” critiques the experience; sending someone threats, publishing their private details, or organizing others to keep contacting them targets the person.

3.Protect children and prohibit exploitation

The minimum age is proposed as 13 and remains subject to confirmation before registration opens. The planned rules prohibit grooming, sexual solicitation or exploitation of a minor, sharing sexual images of a minor, and attempts to obtain a child’s location or private contact details. Do not download, copy, or repost suspected child sexual abuse material to report it. There is no in-app report control on this website. We’ll publish the hosted service’s safety reporting and escalation route before accounts open.

4.Post content you have the right to share

Before posting, consider who created the room, what music or licensed media it contains, and whether identifiable people expected their voice or image to be shared. Permission to access media does not automatically grant every right needed to upload or redistribute it. Do not post stolen accounts, malware, phishing, scams, non-consensual intimate imagery, private conversations, or personal data used to intimidate or endanger someone. We’ll share the copyright notice route before uploads open.

5.Violence and sensitive material

Media can depict fictional conflict or disturbing scenes. That context differs from a real threat, praise for a real violent act, or encouragement to attack a person. For example, a fictional scene is not by itself a real-world threat; adding a participant’s address and a statement that they will be attacked changes the context. Rules for graphic material, warnings, age controls, and restricted content have not been decided yet. We’ll share them before the hosted service opens. Sexual exploitation of minors is prohibited under the proposed rules.

6.Messages and unwanted contact

The hosted product’s messaging and contact controls are not available yet. Proposed rules prohibit threats, sexual solicitation, repeated unwanted promotions, malware, and requests for a child’s private information. If blocking is offered, we’ll explain what it can and cannot do, and how to report someone who tries to get around it. Do not assume that a feature exists until it appears in the released service.

7.No manipulation or service abuse

The proposed rules prohibit buying or selling engagement, automating likes or follows, manipulating trends, coordinating false reports, scraping personal data, bypassing rate limits, probing accounts without authorization, or interfering with another user’s access. A security researcher should not test a live service or access user data without clear authorization. A private security-reporting route and any permitted research scope are not available yet. We’ll publish them before launch.

8.Report a specific concern

No in-app report control is available on this public website. Report categories, review steps, evidence handling, urgent escalation, and response expectations are not available yet. We’ll explain them before accounts open. The site lists contact@kookey.me for project inquiries, but mailbox monitoring has not been verified and it is not an emergency channel. If you choose to send a message, include only the page or account location and the minimum information needed to explain the concern.

9.Review, reasons, and appeals

The proposed process is to review reports in context, take a proportionate action where warranted, and explain restrictions. Possible measures may include no action, a warning or visibility label, content removal, a feature restriction, temporary suspension, or account closure. We’ll explain how moderation decisions are made before moderation is offered; outcomes will depend on the circumstances. Appeal steps, eligibility, time limits, independent review, and external remedies have not been confirmed yet. We’ll share the process before appeals are offered.

This website does not provide emergency response. If someone faces immediate danger, contact local emergency services rather than waiting for an email. When legal-content reporting is available, we’ll explain how to identify the material and describe the legal concern without sending unnecessary information. Copyright claims will use a separately published process. Any preservation or disclosure of user information must follow the law that applies to the operator and request.

11.Self-hosted instances and policy changes

A supported self-hosted release is not available yet. If it is offered, each independent operator will set and publish its own rules, report channels, and appeal process. These kookey-hosted-service guidelines will not automatically govern another operator’s instance. The hosted policy will show an effective date and a change history once those are established.

12.Examples and possible responses

Context matters: a single critical comment differs from repeated targeted insults; sharing a room differs from posting a private conversation to shame someone; and a fictional scene differs from a credible threat against a real person. Depending on severity, repetition, risk, and legal duties, a future moderator may choose no action, ask for a change, restrict content, or limit an account. These are illustrative options, not a fixed penalty chart or a claim that moderation staff and tools are available today.

13.Policy version and effective date

These guidelines remain proposed rules for a service that is not available. No effective date, version history, or named policy owner has been confirmed. The policy will include its effective date, version, and change history before the hosted service opens.
