Terms of service
The agreement for accounts, rooms, profiles, and community features on the hosted kookey service.
1.Scope and current availability
The public kookey website is currently a static product presentation. Account creation, room uploads, profiles, follows, comments, stories, direct messages, music features, and paid features are not available on this website. The hosted social service is in development with a target release in Q1 2027. These service terms take effect for a user when the hosted service is made available and the user accepts them; visiting the public site alone does not create an account or service subscription.
2.Who provides the service
The hosted-service operator’s legal name, legal form, address, jurisdiction, and contact details have not been published yet. We’ll share them before the service opens. The operator will be responsible for the hosted instance and the personal data it controls. The kookey project and an independently operated instance may have different responsible parties. Each independent instance has its own operator and contact details; these hosted-service terms apply to it only if that operator adopts them.
3.Accounts and eligibility
The proposed minimum age is 13, but the final requirement has not been confirmed. We’ll publish the age rule before registration opens. Before registration opens, we’ll explain what account information is required, how accounts can be secured and recovered, and whether parent or legal-representative authorization is needed. Users must not impersonate another person, evade a valid restriction, or create accounts to manipulate the service. We’ll share the age-check and account-recovery steps before those features are offered.
4.How the service may be used
kookey is designed for shared watch-and-listen rooms and screenshots, host profiles, a feed of followed accounts, stories, short-form highlights, profile notes, discovery, likes, comments, and direct messages. The operator may set reasonable technical limits for file type, length, storage, rate, and service capacity. Any feature that is not available in the released product is not promised by these terms.
5.Your content and the service license
You retain the rights you hold in your rooms, screenshots, captions, profile notes, and other submissions. To provide the features you choose, you grant the operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, encode, technically adapt, display, transmit, and make your content available to the audience you select. This permission is limited to operating, securing, and improving the service and expires when the content is deleted or the account closes, except for temporary copies in backups, copies reshared by others, or retention required by law. The operator may authorize infrastructure providers to exercise these rights only as needed to provide the service. No sale of user content or unrelated advertising license is granted by this clause.
6.Your responsibilities for uploads
You must have the rights and permissions needed for an upload, including any required permission for recorded voices, identifiable people, music, licensed video, and other third-party material. Do not upload content that violates another person’s privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, or other rights. A rights holder’s policies and the law applicable to your room remain relevant even when the room is shared through kookey.
7.Community rules and enforcement
Do not use the service unlawfully, threaten or harass people, expose private information, exploit minors, distribute malware or scams, manipulate engagement, or interfere with account or service security. The Community Guidelines explain content rules. If content is removed or an account is restricted, the operator will provide the explanation, review, and appeal process required by applicable law, including the Digital Services Act where it applies. Serious or repeated violations may lead to temporary restrictions or account closure.

8.Stories, deletion, and service changes
The current public website has no stories, account deletion, or export controls. Temporary stories are a possibility, but their timing, archives, backup retention, deletion, and export details are not confirmed yet. We’ll share how they work before these terms apply. The operator will date material changes and provide any notice required by law.
9.Fees, consumer rights, and disputes
The public website currently offers no purchase or subscription. If paid features are introduced, the checkout must show the verified trader identity, total price, billing interval, renewal, cancellation, and relevant digital-content or digital-service terms before payment. Mandatory consumer rights are not waived by these terms. The operator identity, governing-law choice, and dispute routes have not been confirmed yet. We’ll publish them before the hosted service opens. Any choice of law remains subject to mandatory consumer protections.

10.Warranties, liability, and termination
The operator will provide the service with reasonable care and skill as required by applicable law. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer rights, liability for intentional misconduct, or statutory data-protection remedies. The operator may suspend access where reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal compliance, or a serious breach of these terms; the user may stop using the service and request account closure.
11.Definitions and account closure
In the released terms, “hosted service” will mean the kookey service operated by the identified provider, while “independent instance” will mean a separate installation run by another operator. “Public” should describe the audience the product actually makes available; it must not imply that content can be taken back after someone copies it. “Temporary” will have a specific display and deletion meaning only after the story timer, archives, reports, and backup behavior are tested. Account closure and data deletion are not available today. We’ll explain the steps before registration opens.
12.Changes and contact
When these terms are ready to apply, they’ll include a version, effective date, and change history. The operator will explain how it notifies account holders of material changes and what choices they have if they do not agree. The operator’s legal name, service address, governing-law analysis, and monitored contact route have not been confirmed. No support response time is promised at this stage. We’ll share the confirmed details before the hosted service opens; see Service Provider Information and Legal Contact & Complaints for current information.
