Profile notes — say something without becoming a content creator
A short note on your profile about what you are listening to or thinking about. No engagement metrics. No optimization tips. Just the note.
Notice: Planned Product Feature
This document outlines the design and architectural principles planned for the hosted Kookey social platform, targeting release in Q1 2027. The current public website is a static presentation and waitlist.
1.What a profile note is
A profile note is a short update that lives on your profile. You can say what you are listening to, pin a song, share a thought, or drop a photo. Friends can see it when they visit your profile, and from there they can start a room with you or just check in.
It is closer to a status update than a post. It does not have a view counter. It does not appear in a recommendation feed to strangers. You are just leaving a note for the people who already know you.
2.The problem with requiring people to perform
Most social platforms reward consistent, high-volume posting. The algorithm gives reach to accounts that post frequently, use trending sounds, appear in search results, and generate saves and shares. If you post occasionally, casually, about things you actually care about rather than things that perform well, the platform deprioritizes you.
This creates a two-tier social experience: accounts optimized for the platform, and accounts that are just people. Most people are just people. They do not want to think about their content strategy when they want to tell their friends what they are listening to this week.
A profile note has no engagement score. It does not get more or fewer views based on your posting frequency. It is just there, for whoever looks at your profile.
3.Music in a profile note
A note might include a reference to what you are listening to — a track title, a link, or eventually a licensed audio snippet. We have not finalized the music side of notes yet because music licensing is genuinely complicated and we want to do it right rather than fast.
Supported catalog, rights agreements, and territories are not confirmed. We will share details before this feature launches.
4.Visibility and duration
The note is visible to whoever can view your profile. It is not automatically temporary, but you can update it whenever you want and the old version goes away. Duration, archiving, and moderation details for notes are still being planned and will be shared before the feature launches.
5.What is available today
Profile notes are not available on the current website. The hosted social service is in development with a target release in Q1 2027. Details about note length, music integration, visibility, and duration will be shared as those decisions are confirmed.
